I recently purchased a Kestrel 2500. I also own a Brunton ADC Summit, but have never been happy with the long response time required for an accurate temperature reading. An avid snowboarder and skier, I am prone to frostbite and got it twice more this season. I decided to get the Kestrel meterto get accurate windchill readings so as to avoid the frostbite. The ADC is a good meter and actually has more features (altiude ski run logs in particular). However, when that meter is introduced to an environment that has a very different temperature (for example...taking it out of your jacket to get a temp reading on a ski slope) it takes entirely too long for the displayed temp reading to drop to the accurate reading. The Kestrel, on the other hand, is very quick. I had an opportunity to test it on the slopes of Breckenridge and Schweitzer, Idaho recentlyand was extremely pleased with it's performance. The settings and controls for the 2500 are very intuitive and you really don't need the manual. The same cannot be said for the Brunton. To get the most out of that meter, you must spend a great deal of time with the instruction manual. The customer service techs at Kestrel (N-K) are very helpful as well.
